It seems that subscribers now watch about more than 90 minutes of Netflix every single day

It seems that all of your watching is adding up, to about an average of 93 minutes of Netflix viewing per day. And also around 45 GB of data each month.

According to new estimates from The Diffusion Group, Netflix subscribers around the world watch on average more than 90 minutes of video from the streaming service every single day. Also they reported this week that the total amount of Netflix streaming has risen up to 350 percent over the last ten quarters.

The new Netflix report of The Diffusion Group bases these estimate summaries on volume data that is streaming by Netflix. In the month of January in 2012, according to Netflix its subscribers had watched about two billion of streaming hours in total in the previous quarter, this means that a little less than an hour was viewed each day. In the second quarter of 2014, this amount of viewing hours increased to seven billion hours. WHat this means is it’ll equal to 93 minutes of average viewing time for each day.

As Netflix continues to expand internationally, increaasingly more of this streaming time comes from outside the US. According to the report, in quarter three of the year 2011, 94 percent of all streaming hours came from users in the US. Now let us look at quarter two of 2014, this contribution of viewed streaming hours from the US fell to 72 percent. You can wait fort his percentage to go down even further in the future due to Netflix’s recent expansion into large broadband markets such as Germany and France.

Also with the percentage of the amount of daily viewing being on the rise, users are also consuming ever more bandwidth. The recent numbers from Netflix’s ISP speed index show that U.S. subscribers stream their movies and TV shows with an average speed of 2.57 mbps, which approximately equals to 1 GB of data consumption per hour streamed. What this means is that on average, a U.S. Netflix subscriber is burning through 45 GB of data every month.

But understandably, the data consumption of each consumer can differ greatly. Netflix performs a lot better for customers of some ISPs, and worse for others. The individual service plan and also the type of programming viewed can also affect the consumption of data of the user. For instance, Netflix gives advice to its subscribers saying that 4K streams can consume up to 7 GB of data per hour. As the amount of 4K programming on Netflix rises, one should expect the average amount of data consumed to also go up.
